You have hopefully finished unscathed the first part of your reports, which I will be delighted to read during the break. In week 11 (14 October) when we come back we will start presentations of the report. For this task you basically have to summarise your research and incorporate your work in progress in a polished and professional power point presentation of around 10 minutes. Imagine you are presenting this to a room full of potential clients - you must impress! Think about your manner of speaking, your posture, eye contact etc etc - practice it before hand so it all works out well.
Other tips:
1. Have lots of images, they always entertain. Be sure to caption them with photographers name(if known) and source.
2. Prepare some notes to prompt you - but DO NOT read us your report - a reading of a report is uhmm...how can I say it...rather tedious.
3. Have simple backgrounds for your powerpoint slides, preferably white or black. I know fluoro orange with lime green text might be all the go, but it will give your audience a migrane (or at least me, which is not a desirable outcome)
4. Do not have gimmicky transitions between slides - they are usually irritating. DO not use different fonts & sizes, also irritating. Do check all your spelling - having a blaring spelling mistake on a power point is more than irritating.
5. Show some passion and energy about it all - this is after all vocational education and it is allegedly about the industry where you want to go.
We will videotape each presentation so we can review them and give feedback to each other.
Be prepared for the first Tuesday back - we will draw names out of a bag to make it fair to everyone.
